Regulations of the International Relations Office

Chapter I General Provisions

Article 1


The present Regulation shall define the legal status, objectives and functions, structure, and accountability of the International Relations Office (hereinafter – the “Office”) of the LEPL Georgian State University of Sport (hereinafter – the “University”) and shall regulate other matters related to its activities.

Article 2

  1. The Office shall constitute a structural unit of the University and shall operate in accordance with the legislation of Georgia, the Law of Georgia on Higher Education, the University’s internal legal acts, the present Regulation, as well as other legislative and subordinate normative acts.
  2. The Office shall be accountable to the Rector of the University and shall perform his/her instructions and assignments.


Chapter II Purpose, Main Tasks, and Functions of the Office

Article 3

The purpose of the Office shall be to:

  • Elaborate the University’s international cooperation strategy and ensure its implementation;
  • Expand and strengthen the University’s international partnership network;
  • Support and coordinate the international mobility of students, academic and administrative staff;
  • Enhance the University’s international visibility and reputation;
  • Integrate international standards into the University’s educational and scientific processes.

The tasks of the Office shall be to:

  • Coordinate the internationalization strategy and related processes;
  • Facilitate the University’s integration into the international educational space and enhance its authority internationally;
  • Support the international mobility of the University’s professors, staff, researchers, and students;
  • Promote the internationalization of the University’s teaching process;
  • Promote the internationalization of research;
  • Recruit and support foreign students.


The functions of the Office shall include:

  • Elaboration of the internationalization strategy in line with the objectives of the University’s overall strategy, cooperation with various structural units, coordination and monitoring of relevant activities;
  • Establishment and development of relations with foreign higher education institutions and research institutes; facilitation of the University’s membership in international associations and networks and strengthening of its role therein;
  • Liaison with diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia and international donor organizations;
  • Facilitation of the University’s involvement in international ranking systems;
  • Creation of opportunities for international exchanges; coordination of exchange programs; provision of information and consultancy services; offering of various support services;
  • Close cooperation with faculties and the Quality (here) Assurance Office for the internationalization of educational programs;
  • Attraction and support of foreign professors and lecturers;
  • Promotion of research-oriented cooperation agreements and projects;
  • Dissemination of information to University staff on various international research grants and scholarships;
  • Assistance in organizing visits of foreign researchers;
  • Hosting and/or organizing international scientific conferences at the University;
  • Implementation of marketing campaigns aimed at attracting potential students; organization of international visits (participation in fairs, promo tours, school visits, meetings with agents);
  • Organization of internationally significant meetings, public lectures, workshops, and various research and educational events;
  • Reception of delegations from foreign higher education and scientific institutions;
  • Dissemination of information to the University community regarding opportunities for international activities;
  • Support of international projects that contribute to internationalization.

 

Chapter III Structure, Management, and Staff of the Office

Article 4

  1. The Office shall be headed by a Head, who shall be appointed and dismissed by the Rector of the University. The Head shall be accountable to the Rector.
  2. In the absence of the Head and/or in the case of vacancy, the Rector of the University shall appoint an Acting Head of the Office.
  3. The staff of the Office shall include Senior Specialist(s)/Specialist(s), who shall be appointed and dismissed by the Rector of the University. They shall be accountable to the Head of the Office. Their rights, duties, and functions shall be defined by their employment contracts and job descriptions.


Article 5. Head of the Office

  1. The activities of the Office shall be managed by the Head, who shall be appointed and dismissed by the Rector of the University.
  2. The Head shall be responsible for ensuring the achievement of the objectives and tasks of the Office.
  3. The main functions of the Head shall be to:
    • Plan, organize, coordinate, and control the activities of the Office;
    • Define the functional responsibilities of the Office staff and monitor their performance;
    • Participate in the elaboration of the University’s international cooperation strategy and coordinate its implementation;
    • Establish and develop relations with international partners, conduct negotiations, and participate in drafting cooperation agreements;
    • Represent the University at international meetings and events;
    • Request information and documentation necessary for international activities from other structural units of the University; cooperate with them within the scope of competence;
    • Submit proposals to the Rector and Vice-Rector on the improvement of international cooperation; present reports on the activities of the Office;
    • Evaluate the performance of staff;
    • Ensure the professional development of the Office staff;
    • Participate in the planning of the Office budget and control its effective use;
    • Perform other functions related to the competence of the Office.

 

Chapter IV Final Provisions

Article 9

  1. Amendments and additions to the present Regulation shall be introduced in accordance with the legislation of Georgia.
  2. Reorganization and liquidation of the Office shall be carried out in accordance with the legislation of Georgia.
  3. The present Regulation shall enter into force upon its approval by the Representative Council of the LEPL Georgian State University of Sport. The Regulation shall cease to be valid upon the approval of a new regulation and/or in case of liquidation of the Office.
