Merab Metreveli graduated from the Georgian Institute of Physical Education in 1993 and was awarded a master’s degree in handball coaching.
In 1990, he graduated from the postgraduate program of the Council for the Organization of Production Forces under the Planning Committee of the Soviet Union.
In 2025, he completed his doctoral studies at Sokhumi University.
In 1983-1988, he worked as a head coach at the Burevestnik Handball School of the Sports Society.
In 1988-1991, he was a head coach at the Olympic Sports School of Handball of the Ministry of Education.
In 1991-1997, he was Vice-President of the Georgian Handball Federation.
In 1992-1994, he was a specialist in the Sports and Tourism Commission of the Parliament of Georgia.
In 1997-2006, he was the director of the Olympic Reserve School of the State Department of Sports of Georgia.
In 2000-2001, he worked as the head of the Sports Department at the State Department of Sports of Georgia.
In 2001-2004, he was the deputy chairman of the State Department of Sports of Georgia.
In 2003-2005, he was the head of the Olympic Training Headquarters.
In 2004-2006, he served as the president of the Georgian University Sports Federation.
In 2006-2007, he was the director of Tbilisi Public School No. 6.
In 2008-2012, he was the director of Tbilisi School No. 111.
In 2008-2008, he was the director of the Lider Football School.
In 2007-2008, he worked as an assistant to the deputy minister at the Ministry of Culture, Wildlife Protection and Sports of Georgia.
In 2015-2017, he served as the deputy head of the Department of Advanced Training Courses at the Georgian State University of Physical Education and Sports.
In 2017-2023, he was the Director of the Center for Advanced Training and Retraining at the Georgian State University of Physical Education and Sports.
From 2023 to present, he has been working as the Head of Administration at the Georgian State University of Sports.
