In 1959-1964 he studied at the Georgian State Institute of Physical Culture, at the Bachelor’s degree program of the Pedagogical Faculty.
In 1976-1987 he graduated from the Philology Faculty of Tbilisi State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism.
In 1983-1986 he studied at the postgraduate course of the All-Union Institute of Physical Culture (Moscow).
In 1987 he was awarded the degree of Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences (Kiev).
In 1999 he defended his thesis and became a Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences (Tbilisi).
Since 1984 he has held the academic title of Associate Professor.

In 1966-1980, he worked as a senior teacher at the Georgian State Institute of Physical Culture.
In 1980-1992, he was the Dean of the Pedagogical Faculty at the same institute.
In 1992-2005, he was the Vice-Rector for Science at the Georgian Academy of Physical Education and Sports.
In 2005-2007, he headed the Quality Assurance Service at the same academy.
In 2007-2008, he worked as a full professor at Ilia State University.
In 2008-2012, he was the Head of the Quality Assurance Service of the University Geomed.
In 2013-2014, he was the Acting Rector at the Georgian State University of Physical Education and Sports.
In 2015-2024, he worked as the Rector at the same university.
Since 2024, he has been the Vice-Rector of the Georgian State University of Sports.
In 2023, he was awarded the Tulane Prize of the European Federation of Physical Education and Sport for the development of physical education and sports sciences at both the local and international levels.
In 2018-2023, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the National Olympic Committee of Georgia.
Since 2024, he has been an honorary member of the National Olympic Committee of Georgia.
In 2016, he was awarded the Order of the National Olympic Committee of Georgia.
In 2016, he was awarded the title of Knight of Sports of Georgia.
In 2001, he became an Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports.
In 2001, he was appointed Vice-Rector of the Olympic Academy of Georgia.
In 2001, he was awarded the Order of Honor.
In 2001, he was vice-president of the Georgian Archery Federation.
Since 1984, he has been an international referee in handball.
In 1979, he was awarded the title of Honored Coach of Georgia in handball.
